Annual Agenda
Every year, the KIP Council will identify priorities for the upcoming term of council, including priority strategies, outreach activities, and research (as described in the KIP Implementation Framework). Below are links to the current and past Annual Agendas.
Current Agenda (2011)
Priority Strategy: Employment Goal 1 (“Employers, immigrant-serving agencies and community stakeholders in Kingston will work together to ensure that employers are supported in creating high-quality opportunities for newcomers”)
Throughout the planning process, employment issues were frequently mentioned by all, especially newcomers. Finding work, especially meaningful employment that fits newcomers’ education and previous work experience, was seen as a necessary first step in making Kingston home. By focusing on the strategies and actions under this goal, the KIP will coordinate efforts that support both newcomers beginning their first jobs in Canada and the employers who hire them.
Research Priority: Arrivals and Departures
Based on government data sources, the KIP knows approximately how many immigrants live in Kingston and immigrate directly here every year: what we do not know is how many newcomers land elsewhere in Canada and later move to Kingston, or how many newcomers subsequently leave the city. Through surveys and interviews, we will gain an understanding of what draws newcomers from other parts of Canada and why some of them leave.
Throughout the year, KIP will continue to coordinate and support community efforts related to other strategies and goals in the Strategic Action Plan.
